Articling Bonuses 2021

What I've heard is there's no confirmed bonus at McCarthy, and that it was just a rumor that was swirling from a conversation someone had with a lawyer (nothing actually confirmed to the group).

I would be very surprised if McCarthy did not announce a bonus to match the other sisters and firms. What I would love to see is how the other firms would react if McCarthy decides to announce a bonus of $6K + instead.

Apparently BLG gave an 8K bonus

I heard it was 10%. If it was annualized it would be about 8.8K, but if it's the total articling term, then it would be about $6K. Either way, it's a deviation from the flat $5K.

"The Six Sisters" isn't quite as snappy but I guess we'll just have to make it work.

Lol Davies has always been on another tier in terms of compensation anyway. It's more like 6 sisters and 1 rich half sister in a boarding school.

Don't Davies articling students make like 120k? So when that's considered it's not that surprising.

They pay $117,000 annualized, so they essentially do. Unless NALP is wrong.

Articling is not 12 months, but I suppose if you look at it that way.

“Dentons students have not heard anything about a bonus yet"

My understanding in speaking with Dentons students and from what I have heard from Davies (albeit the latter is heresay so please do take this with a grain of salt) is that both firms don't feel pressure to give out bonuses.  Particularly in regards to Davies, the thinking is that their students are already paid more than competitors and will not move elsewhere so the suggestion is that there is no real incentive/pressure to give out a bonus.  As for Dentons, there is no plan for a bonus.
