Student Loan Debt Repayment

Recommended Posts

For some reason I haven't been able to find a thread on this blog about student debt after law school and repayment. I'll start one here, of course this is anonymous and I hope that everyone stays honest. I graduated in 2018 from the Dual J.D. Program with about $160,000.00 CAD in student debt (PSLOC from Scotiabank). It is now 2 years later and I have just gotten to $99,700 and change (just below the six figure mark). I am trying to pay this off as quickly as I can while also enjoying my life. Curious for anyone who out of school, how much debt did you finish law school with and how much do you have left to pay off? For those that are now student debt free (or at least law school debt free) how long did it take you to pay your debt off?

Are you saving/investing along the way or focusing exclusively on loan paydown?

I am trying to pay it down exclusively. I am also saving a little bit but not as much as I would like to.

I'm impressed you saved 60 thousand dollars over two years, presumably one being an articling student.

Does bay street pay more than I remember?
