The TD Global Compliance Department is comprised of compliance professionals, including lawyers, responsible to foster a culture of integrity, ethics, and compliance, and deliver
independent regulatory compliance and conduct risk management and oversight
throughout The Toronto-Dominion Bank and its subsidiaries (TD) globally to protect
our reputation and operate within our risk appetite, and is designed to maintain
confidence in TD by our customers, employees, regulators, investors, and markets. The Global Compliance Department is committed to delivering to its clients the highest level of expertise, service, responsiveness and flexibility.

Reporting to Senior Manager, Compliance, the articling student is an important member of the Global Compliance Department. This is a challenging position that will work closely with many members of the Global Compliance Department.


Job Description

The articling student can expect to be engaged in all of the activities that Compliance engages, and in particular the following are typical:
  • Legal research and writing relevant to business, market, and conduct risk
  • Preparing memoranda
  • Drafting compliance policies, procedures, standards, and methodologies
  • Reviewing and summarizing documents and files
  • Comparative (gap) analysis
  • Attending Compliance Unit meetings and internal client meetings
  • Supporting Monitoring and Testing capabilities 
  • Other reasonable activities as deemed appropriate

The student can expect to rotate through two areas of the Global Compliance Department, including the following areas:

  • Securities Compliance
  • Wealth Compliance
  • Canadian Consumer and Business Banking Compliance
  • Technology, Direct/Digital Channels, and Shared Services Compliance
  • Global Privacy
  • Compliance Governance and Assurance

In addition, the student can expect to be included in various Corporate Development files, including Mergers, Acquisitions, and strategic financial technology investments.



  • LLB or JD from a Canadian law school or a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation.

    Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in financial institutions, in particular those with Compliance experience.

...depending on : if you passed your Bar exams (not mandatory, but a +) and related experience with the articling positions.
