I don't know that you're in the minority - reference-checking for a job is entirely different from reference letters for academic admission, for the reasons you cite. "Making sure the person's last boss doesn't say they're an axe murderer" is not the same as "I already have a transcript saying this person's a good student, now let me read a boilerplate letter about how they're a good student." -

Depends on the firm, practice area, definition of what “small” is, etc. You can’t generalize the salaries of all “small firms” based on location. -

How can I change my practice group? From securities to finance. Every firm I reach out to wants me to have relevant finance experience, which I won't have until I get work from finance group (nothing has come out of the finance group in my firm). It feels like a life sentence. -

it looks like the waitlist reached 11. and i’m assuming more spots will be open after April 26. last year around this time they reached waitlist spots like 29. This year seems to be moving slowly. -
