3 courses in my final term vs 4 courses but possibly lower B3 gpa

Recommended Posts

One of my courses in my last term (now) has a very unfair grading procedure and it's all group work. The highest I can get from this class is probably a low 80, meaning it will bring all my gpas down. But if I drop it (today's the deadline), I would only have 3 courses in my final term, which looks pretty bad since UofT does consider your course load. Suggestions? Current B3 predicted 3.84-85 without this class. Probably 3.83 with this class.

That difference in gpa sounds very small. I think it would look better to have 4 courses over 3. But this depends... What is considered a full course load at your school?

A full course load is always 5 courses per semester. It is different than what a school considers full-time status.

I'd say that if you don't have a good reason, don't drop the course. I don't have any data on this, but personally I think it looks better to have a full course load (or as close as possible) unless there is a question of illness or some other special circumstance. The difference between a 3.85 and a 3.83 by contrast seems a lot less noticeable. Also, you don't know how that class will turn out - I've been surprised by group-work heavy courses before.

    • PSA: please don't be this frugal (unless you need to be to survive).
    • I believe it was a 3.8, but I decided to cancel my offer to Windsor for Osgoode
    • I actually applied for deferral to the class of 2023 as well. They had told me that one student was approved, I am assuming you, and there were a few others that had inquired. I have already submitted my request but I was just wondering roughly the reasoning for your deferral and what you had to provide. I am basing my request on a mental health and financial basis.
    • I had my heart set on Ottawa then got into Queens and Osgoode. Never heard back from Ottawa even though that was the only school I was told I would get into lol. Just be patient you'll get in eventually. Looking back on that application cycle though...it feels like a huge blur.
