I got 80 on my first Emond practice exam, but 66 on the next one. I had been scoring 90s on my other timed practice exams (offered through Ontario Bar Prep and Access) until I received the 66 on the second Emond test last night. I was pretty baffled about how much I struggled on that one, and am not sure what to do at this point. Did anyone else notice how difficult Emond Barrister Practice Exam B was compared to A? If the exam is anything like Practice Exam B, I'm fucked. -

I don't think it would be an issue if you've worked at the same place for 5 years as that demonstrates commitment. Just have a good reason why you left those programs and why you're interested in pursuing law. Now if you had just left two graduate programs and went directly to law school, then that might be a concern. As an older student though, your experience with OCI's would still be different from younger students in their mid twenties (as someone who navigated OCI's in their 30's myself). Some firms may just not be as interested and you have to focus on your experience more so than someone who went straight from undergrad to JD. -

I have a slightly different take on this. If you'll be applying for 1L and 2L summer positions, you might have more difficulty as firms could be wary of your commitment to seeing law school through since you didn't stick out the earlier grad programs. For most firms summer students are an investment in the future so it could work against you being hired at that stage. I'd think it would be less of an issue if you're applying for articles heading into your final year of law school as by that point your commitment to finishing the degree is more concrete. -

That's a solid score. As mentioned, you do not need to hit a certain threshold for individual sections -- the Pass Grade is based upon the cumulative average of the test in its entirety. From what I've heard, the grade needed to pass is usually in the low 70's, but no-one knows for sure. If you're consistently scoring in the 80's on your timed practice tests, I think you'll be more than fine.
