    Thx!! That helps to know...

    Full-Ride Scholarships?

I'm new to the idea of law school, but now quite set on going , preferably Oz, UofT or McGill- with stats below, need money and wondering if they even give "full ride"-level scholarships at all (Ive seen the websites, but in my experience they often leave stuff out....) If anyone has received such a scholarship, or heard of someone who did and knows their stats, it would be great to hear all about it.... Mine are: GPA acc. to Oz/UT/% - 4.27/3.99/92.5% LSAT >=170 Background - Engineering/Pure Science Languages - 3 Fluent (incl Eng/Fr), 1 Working knowledge UG School - Middle-of-the-line canadian, 1 yr on exchg in Europe... total of 5 yrs for 2 degrees, will apply for entrance in 2006 Work - all science related, research & industry Extracurric - decent, most non-science for a change, nothing earth-shattering tho.... Financial Need - on paper, probably none, esp. taking parents income into account. In reality, entirely self-funded (no parents help) but not eligible for student loans, current savings = current debt = $0

Anyone heard of anyone getting in with LSAT lower than 160?

Geez Louise pnut, I thought that I heard the lowest stat was 161, but obviously I was wrong. The admissions office knows a whole lot more about that stuff than I do. 1 point isn't that big a differnece anyway. The bottom line is that its rare to get in with a score in the low 160's, and if you do, you've got to have a great GPA or have spent years digging wells in Africa or something.

Anyone heard of anyone getting in with LSAT lower than 160?

They just published the stats for this year, and gave us a rundown of them in one of our classes. There's a handful of people who got in this year with 161's and 162's (probably less then 10 or so was the impression I got). I know a girl who had a 162, no EC's really and a 3.8-3.9 from UT. I don't think anyone's below 161. The average LSAT is 166.

    Admission chances

I would say you're chances at UT are extremely good. The only minor worry you might have is that UT could calculate GPAs differnetly than you're undergrad and you don't really have a 3.7 according to the UT scale (i think that happened to a couple people on the board). But, as long as you've never dropped a course after the drop date or had some other strange transcript issues and are on the traditional 4.0 scale (i.e. 100-85=4.0, 80-84 is a 3.7), your GPA won't change for admissions purposes. So really your going to get in during the first round at any Canadian school. All you have to worry about is how you're going to pay for it.

    welcome BBQ?

It's not possible to go up to the wrong people, law school is pretty white. On welcome day i think i could count the number of minority kids on my hands. We've overrun every other part of campus though. If you watch alot of Family Guy you'll get the Effrum reference.

    Not getting it

I m recently studying for the LSAT and found that the I dont do that well in arguements from the Princeton "cracking the lsat" guide. Yet i did well in some old LSAT practice prep test. Do those of you that experience the Princeton book find its not well written in terms of examples? Also what tips can you guys give on increasing the longevity of your focus? Thanks.

    welcome BBQ?

I did UG at UT and I loved it. Met lots of people, was marginally involved and loved the location. I lived in residence so i did get the communtiy feel found at smaller schools like Queens. The reason most people consider UT cold is because its huge and there's no hand holding, but in law school you're not going to have that problem. The class size is reasonable so your going to get at least a bit familar with everyone. Plus UT really focuses more on their graduate programs. Its a neat place. Yesterday there was a free movie/popcorn/cotton candy do in UC's feild (I was extremely excited about the cotton candy and have told people about it all day). Hundreds of people came. How many schools do that? My boyfriend and I are both starting in the fall and are going to the BBQ. Say hello, we're the indian/korean people staked out by the food table.

    Self-studiers

I spent 3 weeks studying for the June Lsat while working full time. If you need the money, as I did, studying and working is managable (I had a regular office job, so i wasn't that tired when i got home. If you're on your feet alot, it could be a differnet story). I did a diagnostic test, went trough a Kaplan book to learn the strategies/tricks for 3 days and then did a test a day. Always redo the questions you get wrong, and do at least 1 test a week under "real" conditions, adding an extra section so that you're doing an experimental section as well. Stamina can be a big thing. For me: Diagnostic- 162 Practice Band- 168-171 actual- 164 (I choked, I'm garbage under pressure)

What does UofT consider? PLEASE ADVICE!

Yup, summer courses are counted, but UT looks down on people not taking a full course load during the year.

What does UofT consider? PLEASE ADVICE!

UT will use all four of your academic years to calc your CGPA. Some people will tell you they only use your three best years, which is false. The school does however calculate each incoming student's CGPA using their 3 best years after they're admitted. The new and improved GPAs are used to clac the admissions stats they publish for the year. UT are sneaky bastards and like to pump up the medians to make themselves look better (i'm going to UT so I'm not just bashing, long live elitism!) Still if your other grades are great and you've got a 170+ LSAT you've got a great chance of getting in. Schools care about upward trends in grades, especailly if there was some special circumstance that explains your early lackluster preformance. If you have a great excuse, write and adendum. If not don't bother. A 170 goes a long way to making up for a shitty year. If your not a mature student, volunteerig and WE only comes into everything during second round admissions, and even then only a few schools (not UT) really care about them. Good luck, if your grades are at the medians without the bad first year, definitely apply Edited by: effrum the retarded rabbit at: 6/15/04 2:35 pm
