Thanks for the advice/input everyone! I feel like I'll have to mull this over for a while, but I feel like I'm leaning towards staying on the team. My coaches are quite supportive so if I can't handle the time commitment I'll have some flexibility.

Hi Everyone! How realistic is it to continue my participation on a Varsity team while in law school? If anyone has any experience with this, or knows anyone who has, I would appreciate any insight. Quick follow up, if I redshirt 1L to focus on grades, is it more doable to be on a team in 2L/3L years? Thank you!

I do not know how they determined this condition, but I think it would be wrong to think they wouldn't "accept anyone with a GPA under 82%." IMO it sounds like they chose a number based on the strength of my stats and what would keep my application competitive.

I’m a third year that received an offer this year. My condition is keeping my cumulative average above 82%. My application average was ~87% and my LSAT is 167.

UBC calculates GPA in percentages to evaluate applicants. Your UBC cGPA is the letter grades on your transcript (if you don’t have percentages) individually converted to the lowest % in the category and then averaged across all your credits (minus drops). Ex. A+ —> 90 & A—> 86. There is a calculator that does this pinned at the top of the UBC forum.

UBC's winter session begins in September, they just call them Winter Term 1 and Winter Term 2! Congrats on your acceptance!

Mine just did as well. I checked this morning when brownbear’s did, and it was not updated, but it is now. I applied in late September

Mine has said “file complete - awaiting evaluation” since late September. I think they usually just hold that status until they render an actual decision (saw in a past thread somewhere)

Mine went to "Application Under Review" as well. I'm not exactly sure what that means seeing as I was told I wasn't getting a decision until after my fall semester grades are in (I'm in third year), but I'm sure I'll overthink it for the next few days! 3.92/4.33, 167.

Have you received your login details to the UBC portal yet? If not, you’ll get one that can confirm they’ve received LSAT score, statements, Transcripts. That email with your login can take up to 3 weeks to get to you

I don't know much about applicant numbers or grade inflation (if there was any), but at the end of the day people have to be admitted and if you were competitive in previous years you will be now. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about it but speculate until next week I'll (try to) ease your worry and guarantee you that there wont be even close to 500 people with an index over 92. Also, just to note, it doesn't look like the UVic acceptances so far differ much from previous year numbers.

Glad to hear you figured that out, 3% is a pretty big jump. Just to throw it out there, has anyone asked when they plan on starting their first wave of acceptances?
