  1. Thank you for your input. I understand why you cannot comment any more. I have looked at the guidelines and have experience incorporating professional corps. The part that has me confused is that my bank has said I can use law office of "full name" without registering. I am just curious if some lawyers have chosen this path. I feel silly asking, but I have searched the LSUC's website and bylaws. It does not seem to be written anywhere that I can just use this name by default. I have already send the recommended name application to the law society asking about my proposed name. I am just stuck as to figuring out if my business name is simply my legal name as a sole prop until I change it to something else. (This is also what the bank mentioned). I apologize if this a stupid question.
  2. Thank you for your input! I really appreciate it. Did you have to register your business name? If I understand correctly, as a sole proprietor, your default business name is your legal name. So, if I were to come up with a different name (which is obviously better than just my legal name) and used a semi-standard name such as "The Law Office of X", would I still have to register it. My bank said that their default for a sole practicioner is "the law office of x, barrister and solicitor". I understand if this is construed as asking for legal advice, however, my intent is seek procedural clarification. Thanks again!
  3. Thank you for your input! I know this is probably a silly question, but did you have to register your name for your business? As I understand it, if you are a sole proprietor, you can use your legal name without registering anything, I am not sure if that applies to using a relatively generic name such as "The Law Office of x" though.
  4. Hello Everyone! I am just looking for some insight regarding new lawyers who have decided to open their own office. How many of you incorporated (either regular or professional incorporation)? If you incorporated, what did you call your practice before incorporation (i.e. your legal name, law office of "name", etc)? If you used the law office of "name", did you register your business? I am opening my own practice next month and am in the process of trying to create a professional corporation. In the meantime, I am not sure what I can call my practice. Also, when you first opened your own practice, what were some things you wished you knew beforehand? Basically, I am just looking for other lawyers' experiences and insights. Thanks in advance!
  5. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I intend to call them tomorrow since they are closed for Family Day today. I was just asking in the meantime....
  6. Hi Everyone, So I was called in January and am a little confused. I read on the LSUC website that my membership ID number will be sent (along with information regarding fees) approximately 3 weeks after the call. My problem is that I still haven't received my membership number so I cannot register on the LSUC portal, but I believe my fees are due. So, how do I gain access to pay my fees without my membership id number (and without accruing a late fee)? Does anyone remember how you obtained your membership number? Was it mailed or emailed to you? If so, how long after your call did you receive it? Further, if it was not mailed (or emailed) to you, how did you obtain your membership number? Thanks in advance!
  7. Scales of Justice do not just represent a legal career, in fact, it could just represent a deep connection or desire to justice, fairness and balance... Thanks for everyone's input and opinion. I am glad that not all answers were questioning the type of tattoo I have and making uninformed comments about the meaning surrounding them.
  8. Hi Everyone, I will be attending the U of S College of law in September and wondered if any current students have tattoos. How does this affect (or does it) law student life and interviewing for jobs? (Obviously I would cover it up as best as I could). I have a tattoo of the scales of justice on my ankle and a small heart and crossbones on my wrist. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
  9. Thanks! For some reason I couldn't seem to find that page lol
  10. Hello! Does anyone know who the Chair of the Admissions Committee is, and if so, their contact information (preferably email)? Thanks in advance!
  11. Hmm thats a good point. I suppose if you plan on accepting it still click accepted and accepting...
  12. Not sure if this poll will work but this should give us a good idea of where everyone is at.
  13. I agree. It would definitely be helpful if I could get someone's CAN's as well
  14. Thank you Aggal1. I have found one property manager that does say "pets are permitted". Some of their properties say "pets are permitted, but restrictions apply", whereas others only say the first statement. I am going to contact them tomorrow and see what they say. I wonder why renting in Saskatoon is so anti-pet? Anyhow, thank you for your response.
  15. Hello All, So it appears that finding rental apartments that will accept large breed dogs are near impossible in Saskatoon. I was surprised to find out that unlike Ontario, Saskatchewan law permits "no pets" clauses as well as require a non-refundable pet fee per pet. So, if anyone has any idea of a place in Saskatchewan that will accept pets please let me know. I will be moving to Saskatoon with my fiance, 2 cats and puppy. Thanks!
  16. Hello, Does anyone have the common law admissions phone number? Their website doesn't seem to be working and it is imperative that I contact them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  17. Just received acceptance letter via email!
  18. Part of my problem is that when I graduated with my double major I had more course credits that required so my academic institution dropped one so I would graduate with distinction. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure on my transcript those courses are still there, which may lower my GPA
  19. @ JohnnyBravo- Did you apply under the special access category?
  20. thanks everyone! I'll see if i can figure it out. If I don't like the number I calculate....I'll email OLSAS lol
  21. Thanks. So I would convert each grade and then add all and divide by the number of grades? (The formulas for CGPA calculation can be confusing lol)
