Don't Despair If You Are Not An A Student
20 February 2012 - 09:56 PM
There have been a few discussion threads and I've received more than a few PMs in recent weeks (since grades were released) about what is needed to be successful in the OCI process. Many are feeling nervous, despondent, unsure, etc. about their prospects for OCIs this fall. Those who are interested in working at a large firm, at least many who I have talked to, feel that they have no chance unless they have several As in 1L. This is not the case. Of course, the more As you have the better but it certainly isn't necessary to have straight As. A friend of mine was home for the weekend and got together with a bunch of nervous 1Ls, including a sibling, and, as an exercise, they had a look at current articling students at five of the large, prestigious national firms and checked the U of T grads who were there (because this friend is a U of T grad and thus could tell whether or not they graduated with honours, meaning an A average). I'm not really sure if these numbers are surprising or not, but of the 34 U of T students articling at those firms, only 4 graduated with honours. So, take that for what it's worth, which may not be much, but don't give up hope, if this is your goal.
Condolences to the McGill community
17 October 2011 - 02:13 PM
I realize this is a bit off topic but I wanted to express my condolences to the recent McGill grads and current students here on ls.ca who knew the fellow grad who was killed in Ottawa this weekend. Such a tragic story and a terrible waste thanks to an idiot to made the decision to drink excessively and get behind the wheel of a car.
Congrats on your new Dean!

Just wanted to congratulate Western on the appointment of Iain Scott as the new Dean. He's an excellent lawyer and has extensive administrative experience. This is a great choice for UWO.
Fire at York
13 December 2010 - 04:53 PM
I just saw on the news about the fire at York that has caused all exams tonight and tomorrow to be rescheduled. I feel badly for you guys. There's enough stress during the exam period without this wrench being tossed in. I thought I heard them say that they'd evacuated the entire campus. Is that true?
Grades are up
26 May 2010 - 06:23 AM
For those who have been waiting, patiently or otherwise, grades are now available.
