I am in a very similar situation. It is so difficult to look back and regret the mistakes made during our undergrad. Lets hope schools that take l2/b2 into account give us a chance.
I understand exactly where you're coming from. Oh first year...

cGPA: 3.76
B2: 3.88
L2: 3.87
LSAT: 159 (December, first time writing)
I'm wondering what my chances are at Queens specifically, and when I could reasonably expect to hear from them. In at Western as of mid-Jan, withdrew from UofT (no chance) and Oz (no interest) at that time. Didn't apply to Windsor or Ottawa.
Strong LORs, strong ECs, although I have not done anything relevant to law/government.

I think you're more likely to admitted than rejected.
There aren't really any "easy" schools to get into and Osgoode and Ottawa are actually considered two of the more difficult. While it's difficult to compare (because different schools emphasize different factors where some candidates are stronger and others are weaker), the schools typically seen as easiest to get into are: Thomson River, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Windsor (particularly the dual JD program), and New Brunswick. The Ottawa French program and Moncton both have relatively lower admissions standards, but you need to be fluent in French.
Ottawa is considered to be middle-of-the road but is difficult to compare to others because it is known for emphasizing GPA over the LSAT, Osgoode is one of the most difficult schools to get into, but is more accessible to some because of their perceived openess to soft factors (work experiences, LORs, volunteerism, publications, etc.)

While your LSAT is slightly below the Queen's median, I think you're a strong candidate, given your outstanding L2 GPA. Conventional wisdom is that Western and Queen's have very similar admissions practices.

cGPA : 3.4
Best 2: 3.55
LSAT: 163 (took once only)
Pretty good softs - lots of co-op and volunteer experience.
Applied to Windsor, Western, Queens, Osgoode.

I appreciate the feedback, although a 3.87 is far from outstanding, lol.
Any thoughts on when I can expect to hear from them? I'm starting to get a bit iffy on Western since its so corporate focused, but I'd need time to sort out housing in Kingston.

CaptainCrunch, housing in Kingston isn't that hard to sort out. I'm an undergrad at Queen's right now - and trust me, there are enough apartments. You might not necessarily get the nicest place that is also three minutes away from the law school, but you'll be able to find something.

cGPA 3.24
LSAT 166
cGPA (Master's) 3.8
Varsity athlete (in the NCAA), handful of scholarly publications, various volunteer positions, government work experience (in my field), co-organized a handful of rallies and events, field research in the Arctic (for my Master's)
Any input would be greatly appreciated

I don't know if anybody has any input for me, but I'd love it if somebody had advice for what LSAT score range I should be aiming for. I'm currently in 2nd year, so this might be premature, but any help would be lovely!
First Year Average: 76.7% (about a 3.1 GPA from my calculations)
Second Year Average: ~80% (about a 3.7 GPA)
Assuming I could maintain about an ~80% in third and fourth year, would anybody have a suggestion for what LSAT score range I would be aiming for? I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread!
My softs so far would be part-time lifeguarding, can. history student rep, volunteer for genetics professor (in first year), international envirothon winner (summer before first year) and floor fire warden (LOL). I'd be trying to beef these up a bit in third and fourth year. I also switched majors from first year (biological and medical sciences) to a humanities degree, so I'm not sure how that would affect everything.
I'd be looking to get into a school like Western, Queens or Ottawa, since I know the competition at UofT practically blacklists me for my first year marks haha. Any help would be great!

Hi queenn! I had a 3.1 in my first too! I managed to bring my cGPA to 3.5 during my remaining years and I'm accepted at Western with a 160 (80th percentile). I think if you maintain an 80ish average for the rest of your years at univeristy, you would be in pretty good standing with a 160 .. although, who knows if your cycle two years from now will bring more competitive applicants!
Hope that helps!

Western (and I'm pretty sure Queen's) look at your L2, not your CGPA. Consider that.

Last year some people with your stats were accepted to Queen's, Western, and Osgoode, while others were rejected. I think you've got a shot of being accepted to at least one of those, but get ready for a long spring and summer of waiting.
I'd think an acceptance from Windsor is very likely, probably in the first couple weeks, once they get started with admissions.
Conventional wisdom says Ottawa is out of reach because of GPA but you're LSAT is strong (I know on LS.ca a 166 doesn't seem amazing, but everywhere else in the world, it is!) so I wouldn't count it out altogether.

I'm gonna say that it's because you wrote in December as the reason you haven't made it in for Queens yet. You best my stats in all areas quite significantly except the LSAT and I got into Queens a few weeks ago. It's only going to be a matter of time for you. Early congrats from me.

I've got a 3.53 cGPA and a 161 LSAT and I recently got in at Queens and Ottawa. I also heard back from Western in December. I think you'll hear from them soon!
Good luck! See you in law school!

too late into the process for it to really matter in any substantive way of course, but was hoping someone could indulge my curiosity. I have an acceptance from UofA and am wondering if I should just go ahead, stop waiting and start searching for an apartment in edmonton

Patience young Padawan.
It is still relatively early in the cycle - don't bite at Alberta if you don't want to go there as your first choice just yet.
With a 3.6 L2 and 168 LSAT you should be hearing back from Ontario schools at some point - ottawa being excluded. I've heard that cGPA is used to sort applications at Queen's, which may be why you haven't heard back yet. I have to think that Western might bite too.

So I'm sure you'll have your file looked at, but it'll definitely be later in the cycle and hopefully before the class has already filled up with accepted offers.
Congrats on the UofA acceptance btw. You're from Ontario I'm assuming?

Thanks so much! I'll keep my fingers crossed. If you don't mind me asking, did you recieve an email informing you of your acceptance, or did it show up on different school-related sites (ie. Western's student center) or both?

And thanks Meager...I am from Ontario and the UofA offer (and the chance it might be my only offer) has made the logistics of moving out west a reality instead of just a possibility. Though either Queens/Western are my first options due to proximity, I like the UofA's breadth of course offerings and I've always entertained the idea of moving out west....there was a point not too long ago when the university thing didn't seem like it was gonna work out for me (if my cgpa is any indication) and I very seriously looked into becoming a roughneck and making some quick money in the oil fields....the irony of how this has played out is not lost on me LOL
also...I've lived in enough crappy student-ghetto apartments over my undergrad to know that there's a price for not getting a headstart in spring!

There are almost certainly going to be more offers coming from Osgoode. I don't know what your chances are of getting one. You could hear anytime between now and August.

According to this: http://lawstudents.c...ted-1011-cycle/ among the self-selecting group of people who posted their acceptances to LS.ca last cycle, about 30% were accepted after March 1, 2011.

This is a very disturbing statistic LOl...if that were true I am certainly 100% looking at a first cycle rejection letter
However, I have infront of me an official statistic claiming that avrg GPA for 2010-2011 Osgoode admission was 3.43 and avrg LSAT 80-89th percentile...Does anyone know of this to be untrue??
