Hey folks,
I see this forum seems slightly dead, but I figure I'd ask anyways.
French Immersion student here, considering applying for 2012. I know the whole application must be completed in French, but what about reference letters? I haven't had a French instructor since high school so would find it impossible to get reference letters that are not in English.
Thanks!
PS: any other French immersion students considering applying to UdeM? I see the value of Moncton in that I would likely come out practically a native French speaker, which would add a lot of value to a law degree, especially since I'd like to look for work in politics/government.
English References?

I'm not applying to Moncton, so I can't give you a yes or no answer, but I would ask the school directly.
If you do need to get them translated, make to you get a provincially accredited translator to do it (someone with a stamp).

I am actually applying to UdeM as well. French Immersion student, and did a few French courses at University. I sent in my application, and both my reference letters were in English, they told me that was alright. Obviously, as long as all of your application is in French.
I'm thinking same thing as you, government work, especially since I want to stay around in NB.A little worried about the level of French needed for the degree though, as I haven't been completely French since high school.

I imagine it will be difficult in the beginning but I think I'd be able to pick it up fairly quickly being immersed in it again. Any particular reason you've applied so early? I noticed that UdeM has one of the latest deadlines at March 31st. Im going to wait til at least January when I can hopefully get my second academic reference form a current prof.

I hope you are right! And only reason I did it so early is because I finish my degree in December, so it was easier for me to get my references this term, and I wanted to ask before exams and all that. They told me they don't really start reviewing the files until January, so I don't expect any communication from them until after that. It definitely wont hurt you to apply after January though.
Where did you do Immersion? Are you from the Maritimes?

I did Immersion in Ontario. Do you know if Moncton gives advantage to those from Maritimes?
Also, I know the GPA cutoff is like 2.8, which seems really low, but do you know what the average is for those who generally get in?

I haven't heard about anything with regards to Maritime preference.
As for the admission stats, they are very hard to actually figure out. I have no idea what the average is, from what I hear, they base admissions on everything from GPA to work experience and community involvement. Unfortunately they don't have their stats laid out like other schools and their website doesn't give too much info. You could always call and ask about it, it would be nice to know.
