It sucks that you haven't heard yet muffins, but hang in there. Given the stats of those who were admitted early, I just can't imagine any way they could possibly end up not accepting you.

Also In!

Its nice to hear early, should calm the nerves a bit while waiting for other schools

Stats:

161, 3.8 CGPA, Best 2: 3.85

Though mine does say that students should check back to the Info Web every so often in case anything should change while my status becomes "finalized"

Any thoughts?

Congrats! I'm kind of jealous, but with stats like yours I'm not surprised you got in )

As for what Info Web says, I doubt anything will change - I say you're good!

It's common practice for law school admissions committees -- especially Ottawa's -- to "prank" students by accepting them then, right on Christmas eve, personally call them and, between chortles of laughter, inform them they "made a mistake" and their file is "unfortunately not deemed competitive." I wouldn't worry too much though.

haha but seriously, congrats!

Just a heads up to all you waiting to hear...I had stats pretty similar to a lot of the people on here who have gotten in so far and did not hear a word from UofO until June when I got placed on the waitlist, and then got in 2 weeks after that. It has been really competitive the last couple years at U of O to get in, and from looking around at the class it really seems they highly value the more subjective criteria (work experience, life experience, volunteer work, school past undergrad) since ultimately there is not a huge difference in peoples GPA/LSAT. Everyone coming in is near the top of their programs, so U of O really values other factors. Good luck to all of you, but if you don't hear anything now or even for the next few months don't get to upset about it...it takes them a long time to role out all the application.
Good luck

Thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot. I've been a bit neurotic checking Info Web, the mail, my email and this website. Haha.

I wonder if, because of the way UO picks people, if the cohort at UO is more fun/interesting than say peoople who just focused on the great grade/great lsat lets go to western sort of people.

I am insanely worried about having really boring/serious classmates as I intend to use my time as a 20-25 year old to the full extent. This is something i was talking about over a pint on monday with a friend.

I'm sure there are probably some current UO students on the board who can give you an idea of the social life at the school. Also, I'm sure there are plenty of non-law UO students or Ottawa residents to keep you busy if your cohort is too bookish. I guess this is an advantage of being an old, I've been lucky enough to work/live/enjoy myself in a few cities and countries, so the prospect of marrying the library for a few years doesn't bother me as much.

ETA

to be fair, I do have a bit of a thing for libraries.

I don't know from first hand experience as I'm still a 0L, but personally I would be very surprised if any school was composed entirely of boring antisocial gunners. They exist of course, but from what I've heard they are a minority, even at U of T. Most people are cool/fun/interesting (at least outside of exam time). In fact, I know several people who say they party just as much in law school as they did in undergrad (some actually say more).

haha nah, i used to dislike bros (I mean, fundamentally, I suppose I still do), but now I enjoy the idea of their ridiculousness thus like to ironically mimic their mannerisms sometimes.

This is worth a look though haha http://www.broslikethissite.com/

Thanks for the kind words guys.

To all those still waiting, it's damn early in the cycle. Hold on! This feels better than sex!

First off, congrats!

bolded part - that's a good start. the proximity of decent pubs to FTX is wonderful and horrendous at the same time. My tip: save your money and go to the Urban Well @ Laurier and Nelson, it's much much cheaper than the Oak and FnS has gone downhill. There's La Maison as well on King Eddy - I'm assuming you know of these places since you spent your UG here, but this is more for the others who may not....

Also don't worry about it too much, you'll be able to find the right people for you pretty quickly. A lot of students like to have a good time here (hint: party a shit-ton), albeit there's also a fair amount of keeners that you should stay the f*ck away from bc they're CRAZY (that's a story for another day). Enjoy September & October (and November to an extent) bc you won't have time to have fun at this time next year (or the year after if you defer)

+1 for the avatar pic - you'll be asking yourself this many times during your law studies...I swear they should create some type of common law "REALLY?" rule, it would make our jobs much easier
-1 for having a thing for libraries....Brian Dickson Lib is HORRIBLE. I'll be surprised if you still do after your first semester here. honestly, the worst place in the world filled with the most strung-out, stressed-out kids you've ever met. I would suggest you take advantage of the many great coffee shops and such available in the city to study because in December, BDix becomes a cesspool of ridiculously stressed out law students who talk about nothing but contracts, property, torts, crim (and public law to an extent)

As for the social life at school, it really does depend on the people you hang out with and what you mean by social life. We had a great time all year, even studying for exams, because we always kept things light and tried not to get caught up with the CRAZIES. I'm also not the clubbing type of guy - I'd rather chill out at a pub or at a friend's place and I find myself doing that pretty much all the time. That being said, I know awesome people who live a bit further from campus who don't partake in the festivities as regularly as us because of logistics....it all depends what you're looking for

congrats again to the noobs and welcome to law school!

Ugh, I hear you man, libraries are the worst. I have nothing against studying hard, but the environment at Morisset is just terrible and I'd imagine the law library would be worse if possible. You and your friends sound like an awesome bunch! I'm always happy when I hear about people in law school who manage to survive 1L without having their spirit completely crushed lol. Do you know if there is any type of law lounge at Ottawa U where students can chill in their in-between class times, chat, and do work in a less rigid, anal environment? We had one for my undergrad association and it was the best.
