Congrats to all those in the recent acceptance wave!

Index is hovering at ~91.4 right now.

Hi all - I'm relatively new to this website and this thread. But has anyone considered the impact of the personal statement and the questionnaires? I just received a phone call indicating my acceptance and my LSAT score was not an impressive one....certainly lower than some of those in the rejected thread....

It's relative to your gpa. What are your stats if you don't mind.

Is your GPA really high? That could explain the relatively low LSAT.

Just wondering how many people received notice of their acceptance over the phone... did you also get an email? I am out of the country for the next 6 weeks and don't have access to my voicemail. Still on the waitlist and just hoping that in the lucky case they let me in, I will receive an email and not just a phone call! Thanks =)

I realize that it's an indexed score. Would rather not share my stats...not overly proud of my LSAT score haha. My GPA was converted from a 4.5 scale though and would have taken a hit during conversion.

All I'm saying, is that if they've added those components, they must be looking at them. Because I have a hard time believing I got in on my indexed score alone.

I'm out of the country for some time as well. I just made them aware I would be largely unavailable by phone and received an email requesting that I call.

Are you in the discretionary category?

well it kinda seems like all you know for certain is your lsat score. you're speculating on your gpa. I say confirm you gpa with ubc and then you'll have a better understanding.

I thought discretionary category decisions will not be made until the end of May. So umcolle8 is probably in the regular category.

You can share your index score or GPA if you're shy about disclosing your LSAT.

In no way am I trying to decipher my particulars, although I realize everyone here is largely obsessed with numbers.

I'm merely suggesting that those questionnaires and personal statements are playing a role in their decisions.

i would think its a bit early for those to come into play. they would be more useful near the end of the process when deciding between several candidates with similar numbers.

But if you don't know the former you can't possibly know the latter. That is what people are trying to get across to you.

People here are obsessed with numbers because UBC bases admissions almost entirely on them. There have been rumours that this is changing, but so far this year has followed the same pattern as other years, with the index dropping slowly through the process. Your index may be more competitive than you think.

I dont think it's an obsession. It's the only verifiable method for most applicants. Ubc, like many other schools, is a numbers based school so you cant really confine it to ubc alone. And rumors are just rumors at the end of the day.

To someone who is new to the thread and the forum, it may seem like we are obsessed. I agree with you, it's a good indicator of whether and when we will be accepted, especially to UBC. I know rumours are not reliable, and I cited (anecdotal) evidence that the rumour is not true for this year.

In other words: chill dude, we're on the same side!

Gpa - 3.68
Lsat - 157

These stats are clearly too low for acceptance yet I havent recieved any type of communication from ubc yet? Any ideas why ?

Always stay positive and you just never know!! I went and spoke with admissions just over a month ago and at the time they were just about to start evaluating 163s.
