Not sure why I'm so curious, but I was attempting to find information about the mods by searching older posts, but I can't find anything.

Just wanted to know who you are. I know erinl2 is a law student, don't know anything about Lawmom, Morgan & Uriel.

I was also wondering how one becomes a mod? Is it a paid position? Are you hiring? 8)

No need to answer the questions if they are too personal, I've just been wondering ever since I've joined the site.

Uriel has revealed a fair amount of information about himself on this site. In the past, I found some of his responses very informative, so I did a search on his old posts, in order to see what he had to say about various law school related topics. However, I used the search function on the old site design, which made things much easier because everything would pop up in chronological order. Now, if I understand things correctly, you get limited hits when you search, depending on which sub forum you search in. You don't automatically get every post from a user's history.

Jon, I had this same problem until I tooled around and accidentally stumbled upon the way to get the same result. It requires more steps than the old find user's posts options, but here's how you go about it:

1) When you're on the member profile, click the "Find My Content" link that's under the user picture icon, but above the "Reputation" rating.

2) You'll see a list of the forums the user has posted in, which I generally find totally useless. If you follow the Forum/Members/Calendar headings all the way to the right side, you'll see a drop-down menu that says "View all topics by ____..."

3) Select "View all posts by ____", hit update, and you've got the post-by-post chronology just like with the old forum.

Hope that helps! :)

Cool. Thanks for pointing that out. I have already succesfully stalked Uriel, but that information might still be useful in the future.

I use it often enough that I was worried when I thought it had disappeared. It's handy when someone does drop some great nugget of wisdom and you want to see what else they've said, or when you're trying to where exactly it was that X said Y.

It's weird, but the feature doesn't work all the time. Ive had trouble seeing the posting history of the some of the older posters (especially ones that dont use this site any more). For example, there are a few posters in the old Queens "IN" thread that have made multiple posts, but I can't actually see any posts they've made when I look through their content.

Eta: sorry, I'll move this comment to the thread Morgan created.

You guys have no idea of the kinds of topics I end up reading when I search older posts, I have no idea why I read them. I like going back right to the beginning of ls.ca.

I'm curious too. When I think of the mods, I think of an elite group ruling the LS.ca society, dressed in black trenchcoats and dark sunglasses, even when it isn't sunny at all, or they are inside :)

Uriel and I just finished 3L at U of T. We were both, along with an Osgoode student who doesn't post here anymore, asked to be mods by Morgan and Lawmom. And, no, it is not a paid position. 8-)

Yes, yes, yes, but what we really want to know are factoids like the following:

1) What is your favourite colour?

2) Do you step into your pants with the left or right leg first?

3) Peter Griffin vs Homer Simpson vs Professor Farnsworth in a bar fight--who wins?

4) If you were stranded on a desert island and could bring only 3 things, what would they be and why (There is already a freshwater stream on said island)? And, no, you may not bring a satellite phone. I don't make the rules.

How are we supposed to form an opinion of our overlords without knowing these types of things?

You can't just use heresy and speculation. You need hard facts and tangible evidence when writing a bible. <_<

Yes erin!! Thanks!

So now I can speculate that there may be more openings for volunteer positions at ls.ca, I wonder which law students will be summoned by the leaders.

But this just raises more questions, who picked Lawmom + Morgan? Did they start ls.ca? And if so, what brought upon the idea for this wonderful creation? (I'm picturing it happening like Facebook in the Social Network).

It's not a very exciting history. A girl who was going to Osgoode started the precursor to this site in 2003. In 2005, I took over, registered the domain and set up proper forums. In 2011, if you listen to some people, I was responsible for making this place really ugly and hard to use. Also, I've been slowly collecting your personal information to sell to the highest bidder. That's about it.

There should be some kinda donate feature on this website to keep things running. I would love to help support this website. Or if the money isn't needed, maybe start a law school scholarship fund or something on behalf of ls.ca. I would definitely pitch in and help organize that.

Without this website I would have been GG'd.

Thanks for replying Morgan.

As for making it uglier, I think it just takes people a while to get used to change. To be honest, I can't even remember what the old forum looked like anymore, and this format is similar to another forum that I visit. :)

1) Green.

2) Right.

3) Homer, because he has a method.

4) A KA-BAR, an SAS survival tin, and the transponder from Air Force One. (It's less fun when you ask army guys.) :)

5) Contextual depending on trouser colour and mood. Don't even get me started on socks.

I showed up here as a "chances" kid like everybody else back in --- oh Lord --- 2007. I was in a job where I could spend a lot of time messing around on the computer and spent a lot of time on the forum. Once I started to learn things by going through the process, I wanted to share them around because it often seemed like really important information was really hard to find.

After a couple of years (or a few?) there was a wave of new members and an exponential increase in posts and I was asked by PM to do some moderatin' since I'm always around anyhow, and presumably also because I was already trying to solve problems as much as I could with very long, boring posts and stickies about legal aid.

Like Jon said, my biography's all over the place. I'm sure never to say anything here I wouldn't stand by in real life because people can identify me, and actually have several times. (It's not hard, especially when I e-mail you a course pack from my utoronto account.) ;)

It's actually kind of weird the way things work out; an applicant recognized me at a Hallowe'en party based on my biographical bits and I wound up writing him a recommendation for his 1L summer job. We hang out at parties now. You'll pick up in pretty short order that although the internet itself is huge and anonymous, the legal profession and the population of websites like these are not. That's why we keep suggesting you not say anything too stupid or hostile; there really are only so many of us.

Now, then, the bar exam!

This is true. I have a whole team of mods that I've never met and quite frankly I all assumed were just really smart bots that decided to stay and stop with their posting of viagra ads. I'm glad you gave that up Uriel!
