Hi,
I was wondering if anyone on this forum, attending uO, has been on an international exchange through the JD program and if so, comment on what the experience was like?
I was looking for more information about exchange options on the Faculty of Law website but all I could find is:
Students at the Faculty of Law are encouraged strongly to participate in international exchanges in either their second or third year of studies. Towards this end, the University of Ottawa has concluded formal exchange agreements with numerous institutions around the world. Typically, individual exchanges range from one semester to one full academic year in length. Course credit is available to University of Ottawa students as a result of their exchange studies.
The University of Ottawa Faculty of Law is a proud member of the North American Consortium on Legal Education.
There isn't a listing of partner schools as far as I can tell.

I found this thread trying to find the link to the list of partner universities at U of O, but they've taken down the old page. When I get the new one I'll post it in the event people are still looking to know what's available.
I looked into it last year, though, and they have a decent list of places in Aus, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Trying out Dal or McGill might be cool for Ottawa U students, but why would anyone at Ottawa U want to go to an unknown Mexican school, or worse, an American TTT?

If you're going on exchange in 3ed year, you presumably have an article (and thus a job) lined up and are basically bagging your extra credits abroad. Also, the schools they have in Mexico are very well-esteemed in the Latin world, and not everyone is going for Bay Street after 3L. And even if you are, going somewhere interesting after having done well in your other terms and locked down a good job is unlikely to affect your career prospects much, it at all.
I went by Academic Affairs and got more info. According to them, students can apply to any of the exchange universities open to the general student body, unless stipulated otherwise on the website. You need to get courses pre-approved, though. A good way to do that is going to the Exchange Office behind FTX with a few universities in mind to see if they can pull up the records of any U of O law students who've gone to them in the past. We did this last year and it can save you a lot of time, as you can get a quick idea of which courses were approved in the past, if any.

Here's the list of schools. You can CTRL-F "law" to see if they have any specifications like common/civil/no program, etc.

Also, eligibility stuff.
Hope that helps.
