I'm assuming that this message was through either InfoWeb or Email?

I assumed I would have to write the test but I haven't heard anything yet.
Just want to make sure that I don't miss it if I have to write it!

Yeah, I got the message on InfoWeb. Anyone else preparing for the test?

Hardly anyone here seems to have been accepted?!

I think there has been one person that posted so far?
Although LS is only a sample of applicants.

There have been some rejections coming through on infoweb for English program according to the thread.
This waiting game is so nerve wracking.

It's nice to see (what seems to be) such an active forum, though I cannot relate this to any others because I've never joined one before, until this weekend.

I, too, am still waiting on a response from Ottawa for the French JD program.

fcml = French Common Law, remit?

Everyone I've spoken to who's studied at Ottawa has made favorable remarks, especially my sister who graduated from Med School there. I want to pursue my postgraduate education dans la langue de Moliere.

I wrote the french test today. There were a handful of students there. The test was two sections; the first being linguistic competencies and the second an essay. The essay topics were fairly straightforward but some of the compentencies weren't overly clear. Pick the MOST incorrect usage of a term (Yes, this was actually a section?), some haphazard vocabulary, and then the basic verb conjugation in contexts/sentences that weren't all that common. I'm not sure whether this is a pass/fail test or if applicants are required to score a certain percentage to gain admission but I can see why previous writers weren't sure how they performed. Good luck to those who have yet to write!

yeah the test is questionable at best, and i don't think you ever get to see the results. you just get into the programme or you don't.

the last i heard from Gilbert (the programme manager) is that he's aiming to have all responses sent by the end of May, but that's unofficial and may change anytime...

good luck!

Thanks, remit. It took me a few readings to deduce what "EC" and "PS" meant, too.

briangriffin, "responses" to the linguistic exam or applications to the program?

Well, based on that end of May estimation the good news is that we have only one month left to wait!
The bad news is, we still have one month left to wait!

As of Sunday we will have been waiting a full 6 months since we submitted applications to OLSAS (3 months for the French JD Jan 31 deadline).
How time flies when your agonizingly waiting to hear if you get to pursue law as a future career path!

elle11, there isn't anything specific that I would look at for the test. The sections and questions are kind of random and it's difficult to determine how the committee will determine who passes vs. who fails. There is an essay portion with a series of topics and you're required to pick one and respond. There is a segment on word usage in specific contexts and you have to pick the one used "most" incorrectly. Aside from that, if you speak and are fluent in French you should be Ok! (: Good luck!

Great thank you ! I guess i should perhaps review my verbs ... Do you recall what the essay topics were about - are they law related?
Also, have you heard back from Ottawa since you wrote the test?

Thanks!

Thanks!

The topics were all law related- fairness, ethics, justice- but not specific scenarios moreso comparing/contrasting one concept vs. the other. I would imagine the essay is meant to assess your level of French writing rather than to see whether you make a good argument.

I got rejected from the English JD Program this week and have yet to hear from the French JD Program. Although my preference has always been the French JD, I am frustrated after having seen some of the stats (significantly lower than mine) posted of people who have been admitted. I had thought that if I was admitted to one, the same would apply to the other given that it would make the program look weaker by comparison if a student wasn't good enough for one, but admitted to the other.

Hey,

I was accepted into the french program back in march, and have since accepted it. I just have two quick questions:

1: Do I have to send my final transcripts if my final semester was this past winter? I'm assuming I do.
2: If I do, do I have to wait for the grades to become "official", which I believe is in early June, or can I send it once all the grades first pop up?

Thanks for the help.

@ Elle11: I first got the update via Infoweb with this message:

Letter was dated May 3. I was a little freaked out when I got it cause I'm still waiting on a decision from the English C.L. program!

Hi Elle,
I have already sent the department a mail a couple of weeks back
asking them for the test date but unfortunately they havn´t replied
yet. Is anyone else waiting for a reply of the department?

I heard that they wanted to make final decisions by the end of this month,
however,I highly doubt that they will keep their word if there are still
some people waiting to take the test at this point.

Good luck to all of you!

I'm still waiting to hear from the French Common Law Dept - but I don't think there's any cause for concern yet re: unknown date for the test. I contacted Admissions two days ago about my application status (ENG program) and I told her I was still waiting for info about the exam and she didn't give me any indication I should be worried.
